The standards used to research, write, review, and update West Coast Construction Guide articles.
Our goal is to make construction decisions easier to understand without hiding uncertainty or oversimplifying local requirements.
Editorial responsibility
Jonathan Reed, Editor & Researcher, oversees research, editorial planning, content review, and corrections at West Coast Construction Guide.
Research standards
Articles prioritize primary and technically relevant sources: adopted code information, government publications, manufacturer installation instructions, tested assembly documentation, standards organizations, and established building-science references. Commercial claims are treated as claims, not as independent evidence.
Recommendations
We explain the conditions under which an approach may work, the tradeoffs it creates, and the questions a reader should take to the project team. We avoid declaring one material or method universally best when climate, assembly design, workmanship, maintenance, budget, or jurisdiction could change the answer.

Each core guide identifies its publication date and, when applicable, its latest update or source-review date. Substantive changes are documented according to our corrections policy.
